QUINTA DE BOLIVAR
| Translation | ![]() |
The
Quinta de Bolívar museum is found inside a beautiful country house located at
the foot of Cerro de Monserrate, with magnificent surrounding gardens. The
Colombian Congress donated it to Bolívar after his return from Peru, in
gratitude for his services. He used to live there for short periods with his
friend Manuela Saenz.
After Bolívar's death, the house became, first, a residence, then, a college, a
hospital and finally a brewery until the national government decided to convert
it into a museum.
Its interior decor and furniture are reminiscent of Bolívar's era; the museum
is filled with documents, letters, maps, uniforms and personal possessions that
help to piece together events in his life.
