The building was designed by the Colombian architect Rogelio Salmona, a well-known and popular icon in the history of modern Colombian architecture. The museum offers a selection of 20th-century art. The permanent exhibition focuses on Colombian painters and sculptors of the last 40 years. The works can be seen on display at the entrance and on the different floors of the building. There are also temporary exhibitions by Colombian and international artists. In a special room upstairs there are videos on contemporary art. There is also a small cinema showing the best European and Latin American films.
