            TRANSMILENIO

The articulated bus "Transmilenio" is an advanced traffic management system alternative to daily traffic congestion.
It was implemented in Bogota at the beginning of January, 2001. The system started with 92 articulated buses, which are constructed of two red structures connected in the middle by a flexible tube.
There are exclusive paths for these buses that run throughout the city.

There are three types of stations:
Main, called Portales, located at the beginning and at the end of the roadways.
Medium, situated in the most important intersections.
Simple, located aproximately every 500 m (approximately 1/4 of a mile) along the routes.

El bus articulado "Transmilenio" es un sistema avanzado para el manejo del tráfico, alternativo a la congestión cotidiana. Se implementó en Bogotá a comienzos del año 2001. El sistema inició con 92 buses articulados conformados por dos estructuras rojas que están conectadas en la mitad por un tubo flexible. Hay rutas exclusivas para estos buses que recorren toda la ciudad.

Hay tres tipos de estaciones:  Principales, llamadas Portales, ubicadas al comienzo y final de las vías. Intermedias, ubicadas en las intersecciones más importantes. Sencillas, ubicadas aproximadamente cada 500 metros (aproximadamente 1/4 de milla) a lo largo de las rutas.
