English version The oldest district in Bogotá, La
Candelaria, is also the most laid back. It is split into two zones: the business
area and, more interestingly, the residential zone. There are colonial houses,
sport wooden balconies and clay tile roofs. The once traditional white walls
have been painted bright colors lending warmth to the atmosphere. The area is
home to several important monuments and buildings including the Palace of San
Carlos, the Luis Angel Arango Library, Colón Theater and the churches of La
Candelaria and San Ignacio. It is also a favorite place to buy a cup of
delicious hot chocolate. |
Versión en español El barrio más antiguo de Bogotá, La Candelaria, es también el más informal. Está dividido en dos zonas: la zona industrial y, más interesante, la zona residencial. Hay casas coloniales, balcones de madera y techos de tejas de barro. Las paredes, otrora tradicionalmente blancas, han sido pintadas con colores vivos, lo que le da un ambiente cálido.
